A Call To Men: A Call To Action

Thursday, September 11, 2014 - 8:00am to 4:00pm
Rodef Shalom, 4905 5th Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA 15213

The Pennsylvania Coalition Against Domestic Violence (PCADV), with support from FISA Foundation and The Heinz Endowments, invite you to attend A Call to Men: A Call to Action.

Join Tony Porter, internationally known author, activist and lecturer in conversation about healthy, respectful masculinity and men's role in ending violence against women and girls. His agency A Call to Men challenges communities to think differently about the ways we raise boys, including how rigid messages of manhood create pain and isolation and ultimately promote violence.

This workshop will focus on how we can do better in supporting healthy individuals and vibrant communities and will highlight local men who are engaged in this work.

Following this session, participants will be able to:

  • Explain how messages we give to boys about masculinity and manhood can promote violence against women and girls;
  • Articulate healthier messages for boys about strength and respect that ultimately prevent many forms of violence;
  • Identify programs and community resources that can assist violence prevention efforts; and
  • Connect with colleagues doing similar work.
